Waterford Homecrafts Co-op:

The Waterford Community Service Council set up our craft group in 1984. Their aim was to assist the many local craft workers, who produced crafts in their own homes, to find markets for their work. The Council brought these people together, and with the help of a Co-Operative Organiser, Waterford Homecrafts was founded.

Aims & Activities:

Since its foundation, Waterford Homecrafts has been active in finding venues from which its members could provide quality craft items for sale to the public. Our main outlet each year is the annual Christmas Craft Fair, which is usually held in Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford in the weeks leading up to Christmas. We have also run a craft fair in Kilkenny during Arts Week in August for a number of years and more recently in Fishermans Hall in Dunmore East in June.

The range of crafts being produced by us includes - artwork in various media, aromatherapy products, bags, baskets, batik, candles, cards, ceramics, clocks, cold cast resin products, cosmetic products, cushions, decoupage, flowers - dried, fresh & pressed, knitted items such as hats, ponchos & soft toys, jewellery, leather goods, mirrors, painted lampshades, patchwork, preserves, silk scarves, soft toys, stained glass products, tea cosies, wall hangings, pottery, wind chimes, and woodcrafts, including woodturning.

We are constantly on the lookout for members who would be interested in adding a new, different craft to the list. If you feel you have something to offer and would like to join please contact us at any of the numbers listed below.

Membership:

Full Membership is geared towards craft workers who would like to have an input into the running of the Co-op, working together on the many aspects of organising events and who would be free to help out with the manning and supervision of craft fairs.

A Full Member is expected to: -

             1. Attend monthly meetings.

             2. Take an active part in organising craft events.

             3. Help out with manning and supervision of craft fairs.

Please let us know if you would like to join as a Full Member.

Associate Membership would be more suitable for those who because of work commitments; distance etc. could not take an active part in the running of the Co-op.

However, any assistance that could be given would be appreciated  (suggestions for outlets or events; help with setting up, part-time supervision during craft fairs etc).

For further information on becoming a member please contact Frances Hanlon on  051-352013

Quality Control:

The quality of the art and crafts items, which go on sale to the public, is a very important consideration in the co-op. For this reason we operate a strict Quality Control System. This begins with the inspection of the craftwork of each candidate applying for membership. Only work of a high standard is acceptable. The quality control system continues with crafts at all Craft Fairs being monitored on an ongoing basis.

Meetings:

Waterford Homecrafts’ meetings are usually held in Millennium Building, Lisduggan, Waterford at 10.30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. For details of future meetings contact one of the people listed below.
