Sam was an outdoor sort of boy, and there was nothing he liked better than to wander the hills from morning till night. One day he was sauntering home in the evening light, singing away to himself, when the ground began to rock, the rocks began to roll and he heard an ear-splitting whistle. Turning around to see what it was, he nearly jumped out of his trousers when he saw an Ugly Great Giant, striding down the hill toward him.

“Are you any good at cards, young fellow?” boomed the enormous creature, causing the trees to shake and the sheep to scatter.
