Acupuncture & Physical Therapy Clinic Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture
Introduction The use of acupuncture for facial rejuvenation is not a new idea, it has been used for over 20 years. According to research, most wrinkles are caused by a loss of muscle tone, each line is an indication of muscular movement. Wrinkles are caused by a loss of energy and balance; the proper treatment increases overall energy and corrects the energy balance by tonifying or sedating the proper points as determined by the examination of the location and types of wrinkles that a patient has. There are several complicating factors such as smoking, chronic illness, and excessive exposure to sunlight, consumption of alcohol, high stress levels and certain medications. What we do with acupuncture is find the energy imbalances and restore balance. Many times with treatment we get a reduction in the depth of lines and wrinkles, and many times a tightening and lifting of facial features resulting in a younger appearance without undergoing surgery. The really nice thing about this procedure is that it does not involve surgery. It's painless and safe, we use pain free non-needle electrical acupuncture, and unlike surgery there is no recovery time, no scarring and no pain involved. The patients normally receive between 24 to 36 treatments and the best results are achieved by treating 3 times per week for 2 to 3 months. We recommend being treated every month or two to maintain the improvement gained from the treatment. Before an important social event you may wish to do a series of treatments just before the event to look your best!! The treatments involve stimulating or sedating acupuncture points on your face. The exact treatment is formulated for the type and areas where you have facial lines. In other words the treatment is custom formulated for each patient. We also use techniques of feathering and facial padding with micro current to further tighten the face and reduce sags and wrinkles. With these treatments we get a gradual reduction in the depth of lines on the face, and many times a tightening and lifting up of the facial features. Also, many times with treatment the eyes appear bigger and more open. The beauty of this method is that with gradual improvement in your face, your friends will notice you look better, but will not realise you are having a 'face-lift' because the results occur gradually over time!
F.A.Q's 1. What is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture? Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is the focus of and most effective component in the ultimate Facial Rejuvenation Program. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the ageing process. Though Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture can sometimes be referred to as Acupuncture Face-lift, it is more than a cosmetic procedure. It is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger. The Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatment is based on the principles of Oriental medicine and involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into particular areas of the face, ears, neck, hands, trunk and legs along channels or meridians of energy in the body according to the individual's needs. Thousands of years ago the Chinese discovered that many meridians either begin or end on the face while some have internal branches that go to the face. Thus, practitioners of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture know how to specifically effect the face while simultaneously treating the underlying factors that contributes to the ageing process. 2. What are the effects? Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture may erase as many as fifteen years from the face, with results apparent after just a few treatments. Fine lines may be entirely eliminated and deeper wrinkles diminished. Bags under the eyes can be reduced, jowls firmed, puffiness eliminated, droopy eyelids lifted and double chins minimized. Other likely results include: moisturizing of the skin with increased local circulation of blood and lymph to the face; increased collagen production, muscle tone, and dermal contraction; tightening of the pores; brightening of the eyes; improving of hormonal balance to help acne; reduction of stress evident in the face - bringing out the innate beauty and radiance of an individual. 3. Who would benefit from Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture? Anyone concerned with looking and feeling young and slowing down the ageing process. The decision to begin treatment may be professionally or personally inspired or an combination of the two. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is suitable for those with deep wrinkles, fine lines, bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping eyelids, double chin, large pores, dry skin or acne. Different methods are emphasized and specific points stimulated according to how an individual is ageing. A person with excess puffiness, for example, would require a different treatment than someone with dry skin. The whole person is treated and evaluated on the body-mind-continuum - the foundation of Holistic Medicine. 4. What is the procedure & course of treatment? Generally, it consists of 12 -24 treatments. The effects become most noticeable and lasting on or about the seventh session. Each person responds differently, depending on his or her own condition and lifestyle prior to treatment. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance sessions can prolong the results for five to ten years. It is often recommended to supplement the facial rejuvenation program with Facial Self-Massage and/or Acupressure, Facial exercise, Herbal and Nutritional Supplements, pure and authentic Aromatherapy blends for the skin, and a healthy diet. On the first visit we evaluate your face for wrinkle types. We photograph you so that we can have 'before' and 'after' pictures to evaluate the changes that take place. On the following visits we treat your face with electrical acupuncture, after which you should notice a gradual reduction in lines, and a general tightening of the face. After 24-36 visits we take comparison pictures to chart your progress. We also recommend treatment every month or two to maintain the treatment gains. The procedure all costs less than a surgical face lift, and does not involve the risks associated with surgery and remember we treat the entire face where treatment is needed, not just one area. Results vary from patient to patient, however typical results are that an average patient looks 5 to 25 years younger. The frequency of treatment recommended is 3 times per week for 2-3 months. Results depend upon individual patient response to acupuncture, and patients follow through with treatment. 5. Is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture a 'new & trendy' technique? Hardly!! For thousands of years the Chinese have known that beauty comes from the inside. As early as the Sung Dynasty (960 AD - 1270 AD) Acupuncture rejuvenation practices were employed for the Empress and the Emperor's concubines. The Chinese discovered and utilized ways to change the energy flow within the body to initiate the healing process for rejuvenation. According to a famous Chinese axiom, "Where Qi goes, blood flows". Even for those unfamiliar with the principles of Chinese medicine, it is known that increased circulation helps the body look and feel better. Common sense would tell us that treating the underlying cause of why someone is ageing is preferable to masking the outward symptoms and allowing further decline and dysfunction to continue within the body. 6. Does it really make a difference? Many sources indicate that acupuncture has been used for almost 5,000 years to treat a wide range of conditions. Having proven itself with literally billions of people, Acupuncture has survived the test of time. The use of acupuncture in Cosmetology -especially in preventing and reducing wrinkles- has already attracted great attention in Japan, Hong Kong, and Sweden. The effectiveness of Acupuncture is due to it's direct manipulation of the body's energy system - balancing, removing blockages or adding energy when necessary. A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with facial acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. 7.Are there any Contra-indications? Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is not recommended for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure or for individuals who have a pacemaker or who have problems with excessive bleeding or bruising. It is also not recommended for anyone who suffers from migraine headaches, anyone who is pregnant, has a cold or flu, is suffering from an allergic attack or during acute herpes outbreak. 8. Who administers Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture? A licensed Acupuncturist should perform the treatment, with training in the specialisation of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Not many acupuncturists are specially trained in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Optimally, one should seek out a practitioner trained by an expert in this field.
