Programme of Past Talks 6th July 2004: The first meeting (Tues. at 11a.m.) 4th August 2004: Talk on "Childsplay", a physical activity programme run mainly through play, and is geared at children from 0-5 years. 8th September 2004: “A visit from the Public Health Nurse: Nurse Rachel Harty”. 6th October 2004: A talk on “Childminding” by Susan Power, the Childminding Advisory Officer, giving advice on working in the area of childminding and looking for a childminder. 10th November 2004: A talk on “First Aid for Children” by Nurse Ann McElroy. 1st December 2004: A talk on “Learn to Love Reading” A public talk on choosing age-appropriate reading material for children of all ages by Katherine Collins. 12th January 2005: A talk on “Homeopathy” by Abbas Ghadami. 2nd February 2005: A talk on “Baby Massage” by Cathy Bell-Howlett. 2nd March 2005: A talk on “Post-Natal Depression” by Fran Gleeson, South East Regional Coordinator of AWARE. 13th April 2005: A talk on “Yoga for Mothers and Babies” by Patricia Roche. 11th May 2005: “Hullabaloo Story Time and Activities”, a dramatic storytelling of “The Hungry Caterpillar” and followed by play-dough and crafts, making caterpillars and butterflies. 7th September 2005: "Baby Massage" A talk on baby massage techniques by Cathy Bell-Howlett, R.G.N. A talk on the value of play by Susan Kennedy, Pre-School Teacher and Adult Tutor of Play. Topics covered included: Facilitation of play, the adult's role in interactive play and how parents can support play. 2nd November 2005: "Health Promotion Office, Waterford - Information Session on Parenting Programme". Susan Scully, Health Promotion Officer provided information about the "Family Communication and Self-Esteem Course for Parents". 7th December 2005: "Best Books to buy for Christmas for Babies & Toddlers". Presented by Melanie Cunningham, Librarian, Ardkeen Library. Suggestions were provided on the types of books suitable, specific authors and specific titles for purchasing this Christmas. 11th January 2006: "Information on Childminding", a talk on Childminding included information on how to become a registered childminder and tips on what to look for when hiring a childminder. Contact: Susan Power, Waterford Childcare Committeee 1st February 2006: "Lifesteps - Guides to the Internet". Lifesteps website is a series of guides to the Internet covering a broad range of topics and is aimed at people who have not used the Internet before. Topics discussed were The First Two Years of Life and Family Health. 1st March 2006: "Homeopathy for Parents & Toddlers". Vonnie Brennan, RGN/PHN., Registered Homeopath, gave a talk on Homeopathy. The talk covered the use of Homeopathy and its treatments for parents and toddlers. Contact: Vonnie Brennan 5th April 2006: "The Value of Play". Back by popular demand Susan Kennedy, Pre-School teacher and Adult Tutor of Play, presented a talk on the "value of play". The talk covered the following topics: facilitation of play, the adult's role in interactive play and how parents can support play. Contact: Susan Kennedy 3rd May 2006: "Children's Summer Activities Programme". Information session about the Children's Summer Activities Programme (July-August 2006). Presented by Lorraine Boyle, Library Assistant,Ardkeen Library. 6th September 2006: "Information Session on Ardkeen Library Services for Parents & Toddlers".Lorraine Boyle, Library Assistant, presented the talk which included information on all Library Services for Parents & Toddlers. Also included in the talk was a free information pack with a complimentary copy of Practical Parenting / Mother & Baby (September 2006 issue). 4th October 2006: "Public Play Facilities in Waterford City". Claire Hartley, Administrative Officer, Community & Enterprise, Waterford City Council, hosted an information session on all public play facilities in the city. 1st November 2006: "Dental Hygiene for Babies, Toddlers and Young Children". Presented by a member of staff from the Health Service Executive. Topics covered included: correct brushing techniques, tips on proper diet to encourage healthy teeth and general care of teeth. 6th December 2006: "Developing Language and Communication with your Baby or Toddler". Tanya Brady, Central Remedial Clinic Services for Children, Waterford Regional Hospital presented a talk on developing language and communication with babies and toddlers. Developing reading with your child, for the 0-5yrs age group – January 10th, 2007 Ardkeen Library staff will present a talk on new and recommended titles to share with children, which can help develop reading and increase enjoyment of shared reading time together.
Waterford City Childcare Committee: an overview of services – February 7th, 2007 The talk will be hosted by a member of staff from the Waterford City Childcare Committee. The talk will provide information and an overview of the work of the committee and the range of services it provides.
Baby Massage with Suzie Cimi – March 7th, 2007 Suzie Cimi will present a talk and information session on the benefits of baby massage for babies and toddlers. A talk on Eco-Happy Nappies by Ella Ryan, Environmental Officer, Waterford City Council – April 4th, 2007 Ella Ryan, Environmental Officer with Waterford City Council will give a talk on Eco-friendly nappies, discussing the availabilty, cost and benefits of these eco-friendly alternatives in comparison to regular disposible nappies.
Fun with Nursery Rhymes, Songs & Activities by Development Officer, Waterford City Childcare Committee – May 2th, 2007 A fun interactive session with plenty of nursery rhymes, songs & activites to share with your baby or toddler.
