National Party

The Branch holds a monthly meeting at the Munster Bar starting 8.oo.pm.

Meetings are held in a relaxed manner, but as befits a democratic listening Party, members are encouraged to participate in interesting debates and lively discussion on issues relevant to the local area, and wider city.


Current activities

As part of a national recruitment membership drive set for 30th September to 9th October the local joint branches will conduct several promotion sessions at weekends in John Robert Square. 


At a recent Combined City Branch meeting it was agreed to set up a working party comprised of two members from each Branch to submit proposals for encouraging an increase in youth membership. In addition  it would submit guidance on strategy options, focused on next general election. Their report to be considered by the branch. 


Next Branch Meeting- Thursday 24th February 2005

This Branch Meeting will consider motions for the Party Conference, to be held in Tralee on 27th ,28th 29th May 2005.

 The Combined City Branch will next meet on Thursday 10th February at 8:00pm


AGM

The branch AGM was held on Thursday 27th JANUARY at 8 p.m at The Munster Bar.

Reports were given by the Branch Officers. The Secretary stated that the highlight of the years activities was the stunning success of Jack Walsh's election to the local corporation.The membership had increased significantly.Branch Officers had involved themselves on behalf of the Branch in attendance at The Party Conference,and were involved in the National Breast Screening Petition.Recently a hugely successful Pub Quiz night was held in The Showboat Pub the Branch donated €120 towards the Tsunami Appeal Fund.

The Treasurer gave an upbeat statement on Branch finances.The Chairperson Joe Howlett placed on record our congratulations to Jack on his recent election to the chair of the Vocational Education Committee.

Cllr Jack Walsh thanked all the members for their support throughout the year

The current Branch Officers were re-elected unopposed.


The Annual Micheal O'Brien Lecture

 All members of the public are welcome.


The Branch registers delegates to Annual Labour Party Conference, and may submit motions to same.

The following Branch motion was successfully carried at last years Conference.

Conference calls on the Government to:-

(a) Provide a reliable Park and Ride system for all major cities and towns.

(b) Place an adequately sized car park on all busy shopping towns.

(c) Run an Imp or small bus service at 15 minute intervals during peak times, (07.00 to 10.00 and 16.00 to 19.00) and half hourly during off peak (10.00 to 1600).

(d) Fees for Park and Ride should be no more expensive than the cheapest town daily parking rate.

(e) Buses running closest to Industrial Estates to be diverted through these estates at factory start and finish times.

(f) All buses should also start and finish their run at town centres.

The Branch produces and circulates quarterly newsletters to all households in the area.

The Branch members participate in an Annual Party Membership Drive.
